Offended?! Me?!

I was approached today by a young man, who told me he heard a joke in class, and thought I would find it amusing. Here it is:
"Hey man, wanna hear something funny?"
"Sure."
"Women's Rights."

At first, after hearing the punchline, I was expecting something more, so I held any laughter.
Apparently, that was the joke, and the impression that maybe I just heard him wrong, and he may have meant it as Women are always right, ( they are, btw ;) ) But no. It was a direct hit to women's rights.

I didn't laugh, but i did wonder. Who told him this joke, and how did it get a laugh in a classroom.
So, the conclusion I gathered was the guy who first said the joke has no respect from women, probably a pig, the guy who sees women as another sexual conquest than the future mother of children, someones daughter, or sister... He is probably the guy who didn't grow up around women at all, and his dad is the type who claims "the woman's place is in the kitchen".
The ones who laughed, could also be similar types, or just laughed because they wanted to be accepted. I think my face when he said the punchline 2 more times, was enough to tell him I didn't find it funny at all. There is nothing funny about women's rights.
I wanted to ask him, if he thinks his mother's rights to work the same job and wage as a man, or right to vote was funny in any way. How about his girlfriend?

I am not to fond of sexist remarks like that. Sometimes, a racist or sexist joke can be pretty funny, especially when it can be ironically true.

As a young boy, teenager, and even in early adulthood, i suppose, I did see women in a different way. I wanted to- well, you know. Just like any other teenager.
I saw women as objects of lust, and didn't appreciate them as people with feelings.

Until one occasion, I used a girl. I was straightened up by my stepmother QUICK. Her way of bashing me upside the head with respecting women was seemingly cruel at the time, but it is exactly what I needed. I was pissed, hated her for what she said, how she handled things with the girl-
And of course, got a good (mellow) talking to from my dad about it, and he has always told me "It's not what you say, but how you say it."- (Which are words I live by daily now, and it helps me in my writings)
He explained to me that she was a daughter, a sister, etc- and asked how I would feel if someone took advantage of my sister like that? My first thought was to beat the living piss out of them, and throw them to the crocks. It clicked.
I was a scumbag.
I changed. I have much more respect for women now than I ever had.
Women, carry their man's child for nine months, pushes it out, and nurtures it.
Every man who has a daughter - Daddy is the first man to ever hold her (aside from the doctor anyway) And Daddy will be the one man who will never break your heart, and beat any man who does. He will watch his daughter become a woman, find love with a good man, and he will give her away at her wedding. Daddy's little girl. She is a wife to a good man, and may give him children soon. Maybe even a daughter of his own, who he to, will give away at her wedding.

I am thankful for all the women in my life, and I am glad they have the rights they deserve, and are seen as equals.
I am glad I am not a sexist prick.
